<p><strong>Carmen Goldthwaite</strong> is teaching <a href="https://contsturegister.smu.edu/wconnect/CourseStatus.awp?&amp;course=123IWR223-D  ">Narrative Nonfiction: The Proposal</a> at SMU beginning Feb 2nd.</p>
<p>Go the distance in narrative nonfiction with this class that helps you create the selling tool — a book proposal –for your memoir, biography, history, anthology or travelogue. In this intensive, the first classes will concentrate on story ideas and early chapters, including research skills. Next, in a distance learning phase, you will develop the skeleton of the book, the outline. The third phase will be classroom learning about the business component of the proposal: marketing, platform and polishing. The intended product — a complete and ready proposal (first three chapters, explicit outline, marketing and platform plans and statements) qualifies for eligibility to apply to the SMU Writer’s Seminar in New York. THIS TIME ONLY, NO PREREQUISITES.</p>

<p><strong>Richard Young</strong> was accepted to participate in a Federal program to deliver more efficient healthcare. He was the only physician in Texas asked to participate. Jim Landy interviewed him for an article in the <a href="http://www.dallasnews.com/business/columnists/jim-landers/20120109-trust-your-doctor-to-save-you-money-federal-health-care-adviser-says-yes.ece">Dallas Morning News</a>.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Donna Lasko announced three bylaw changes proposed by the Board.</p>
<p>If you would like to see a copy of the proposed changes, please contact <a href="mailto:donnalasko@gmail.com">Donna</a>.</p>
<p>Donna announced that Susan Clark, chairperson of the Building Search Committee, needs assistance.  If you live in the HEB area and notice a commercial building for lease or sale, jot down the information and send it to Susan Clark.  She will handle it from there.</p>
<p>Katy Roberts volunteered to be the Election Coordinator.  She is looking for three ballot counters.</p>
<p><strong></strong>Dues for 2012 are now due.  Dues are $100 a year and it is very simple and highly recommended to renew and pay online at <a href="http://www.dfwwritersworkshop.org/">www.dfwwritersworkshop.org</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Russell Connor</strong> announced that next month he will meet Steven King.</p>
<p>Halloween Read is October 26<sup>th</sup> – bring a dish; come in costume!</p>

<p>Brenna Smith is teaching the “Small Talk” Workshop on Saturday Oct 15<sup>th</sup> from 9am to 12pm at the Writers Garret in Dallas.  <a href="http://www.writersgarret.org/calendar.shtml">http://www.writersgarret.org/calendar.shtml</a></p>
<p>The board needs a volunteer to be the Election Coordinator.  Duties will include ballot counting and coordinating the 2012 Board Election.</p>
<p>Our annual Halloween Read is October 26<sup>th</sup>.  We will also have a Potluck that night, so bring your favorite dish to share.  Feel free to come in costume.</p>
